Bellabox: January 2012

Today I received my January Bellabox in the mail. When I first picked up the box it felt quite heavy. The theme for this box is We Love Australia and contains Australian beauty brands. Here's what's in my box:

You, Me & Everybody Cool It Aloe Vera Gel:
This product contains 98.5% Aloe Vera juice and this is a summer staple for me. Whether for mosquito bites or sunburn, I always make sure I have a tube handy. This company is based in Victoria and I am assuming it is made there as there is no "Made in *****" text on the packaging, their website or the information card. This product is valued at $8.95 for 100mL.

WotNot Organic Facial Wipes:
This is the second product on the card and looking at the description on the packaging, it has some certified organic ingredients. WotNot is a company based in New South Wales, but this product is Made in China. As this box is to celebrate Australian beauty brands, I would assume that it would celebrate brands and their products that are designed and made in Australia, not overseas. Back onto the face wipes; I haven't tried them yet and they will be in my pile of face wipes (you can never have too many). These ones "gently remove impurities, make-up even water-proof mascara" and a "free from harsh drying chemicals". This product is valued at $7.95 for 25 wipes.

Swisse Body Wash with Vitamin B3 and Macrobiotic Sea Minerals:
This is just a shower gel with all these "special" things added. I don't actually believe that washing yourself with a shower gel containing Vitamin B3 which is niacin will improve cholesterol levels and lower cardiovascular risks. This will probably get used if I run out of shower gel (which I won't until next year) or live in the cabinet under my bathroom sink for when visitors come over. This product is valued at $14.95 for 250mL.

Natio Pure Mineral Skin Perfecting BB Cream SPF15:
This came in a 5g sachet so I haven't opened it yet. The shade I got was medium which I know is going to be too dark for me (I specified that my skin colouring is Light on my profile). I also don't really understand the purpose of a BB Cream. To me, from what is available in stores, it just seems like a glorified name for a tinted moisturiser. I probably won't use this unless I am tanned and using fake tan as well. This product is valued at $14.95 for 50g. A 5g sachet of product is quite a lot as Clinique sample sachets are around 1.4g.

Face of Australia Massage Therapy Lipshine:
So the "massage" bit on this is six little plastic bumps on the applicator. The product smells like cheap and childish cosmetics and it is extremely sticky. The colour I received this in is Bondi which is a light mauve/pink colour with lots of shimmer. This product is valued at $10.95 for 15mL.

I am not that excited with this month's box. The item's seemed a bit generic and there was no 'wow-factor' there for me. Even though 3/5 items were full size, I would rather receive small sachet samples of products I will actually use. The value of the box is $31.14 plus postage.

I am about to cancel my subscription, but I don't like the idea of having to send an email to do so and wait for a reply.

What did you get in your January Bellabox, or monthly subscription?

  1. Hey, it is hard to tell the difference between a real BB cream and a tinted moisturiser. A BB cream is for skin concerns like acne, blemishes, rashes, redness, while giving coverage and protection. I agree on the Australian brands thing, it really sucks that so many companies manufacture overseas rather than in their own backyard. Higher cost yes, better for Australia yes!

    1. I've just found that the ones that are for sale in shops over here are just a tinted moisturiser (with a tad bit more coverage) and labelled as a BB cream that magically helps your skin.

I don't believe that a brand should be considered Australian just because they set their head office up somewhere in the country and outsource everything to another country.

  2. I received almost the same thing as you - except my wipes were non organic and a fluro nail polish i'll never use instead of the lipgloss. Extremely disappointed with this month's box......

    1. I wish I got the nail polish. Either the Innoxa or the Mode nail polish.

The Face of Australia wipes are actually OK. I have found that they don't irritate my skin (and everything irritates my skin).

I cancelled (still waiting for a reply) and signed up to another sample box company which looks pretty good (so far)!

  3. Great post Jaci! I love how you're so frank! I'm not subscribed but I'm still always interested to see what people get.. This month's seems a bit like a dud in comparison to November and December.. Feeling sad about FOA's Lipshine first impressions! I'm a big fan of FOA, but I must agree that those lipshines don't look too appealing...

    1. Practically every company has a product similiar to the Face of Australia lipshines and they are all the same; extremely sticky and cheap scent to them.
